Sutton revamps comms function after Marratt exit

Sutton Council has merged its top PR and policy roles as part of an authority-wide restructure intended to create greater efficiency.

The Surrey authority is now recruiting for the post of head of policy and communications following the departure of executive head of comms Ian Marratt, whose role is now defunct. He has joined the Safer Sutton Partnership

However, the council has hired Medway Council principal media officer Darren Bindloss to the newly created role of head of corporate communications. He will report to council chief executive Paul Martin until a head of policy and comms is recruited. He will then report to that postholder.

Bindloss is responsible for an 11-strong team covering all internal and external communications, website content, corporate marketing, design and the bimonthly official council newsletter, Sutton Scene.

Sutton is rated ‘excellent' by the Audit Commission and has Beacon Status for its waste and recycling initiatives, and for the work it carries out through the Safer Sutton Partnership.

Prior to Medway, Bindloss was a public affairs consultant for Ludgate Communications.
