Wood industry in Olympic site bid

Britain's wood industry is lobbying the Olympic authorities to make greater use of wood within the buildings on the London 2012 Olympics site.

Organisations including the Timber Trade Federation, trade body Confer and the British Woodworkers Federation have jointly enlisted Bellenden Public Affairs to run the campaign, called ‘Wood for Gold'.

The campaign will argue that wood has strong renewability and sustainability qualities, and that its use will help to fulfil London 2012's stated aspiration of being the ‘green games'.

Bellenden MD Mark Glover said the main challenge would be overcoming the ‘tradition' of building with bricks and mortar.
