NHS IT project in comms revamp

The NHS National Programme for IT (NPfIT) has bolstered its comms team amid ongoing controversy surrounding the project.

Head of comms James Herbert has been promoted to director of external affairs. West Yorkshire SHA director of corporate affairs Janet Walter has joined in the new role of NHS comms and engagement director.

A head of media relations role has also been created, with recruitment ongoing.

NPfIT aims to digitise all patient records. However, it faces opposition from GPs and has suffered a number of technical setbacks.

NPfIT retains Porter Novelli to promote patients' rights to opt out of the scheme.
