Ukraine chemical giant Stirol in double agency hire

Stirol - Ukraine's largest chemical company - has taken on its first PR agencies, MMD and Gavin Anderson.

The company, which shelved plans to float on international markets after the Russian gas dispute last winter, has hired MMD - based locally - alongside Gavin Anderson in the UK to handle a corporate reputation brief. The company makes fertilisers, pharmaceuticals, polystyrene and consumer chemicals.

The dispute saw Russia - which supplies a third of Ukraine's gas - cutting off gas to the country for 24 hours, after the countries failed to reach a deal on prices.

After the dispute, Ukraine agreed to pay around double the original price, which had been heavily subsidised.

ALSO...MMD has partnered Gavin Anderson to handle a corporate and financial PR brief for TMK, the largest exporter of pipe products in Russia.

TMK is said to be planning a listing on the LSE in October or November. It brought Credit Suisse, Dresdner Kleinwort and Renaissance Capital on board in August.

MMD's Moscow-based CIS regional director Stephen Lock said: ‘We are looking at a number of interesting strategic and financial options for them.'

TMK previously worked with Citigate Dewe Rogerson on projects.
