The former Spreckley Partners MD and Burson-Marsteller UK tech practice head said he hoped to be able to confirm a new position within weeks.
Pleon has now scrapped his role. Agency UK CEO Geoff Beattie said: ‘Country managers will now work with practice heads to develop new business.'
Butters said: ‘My position at Pleon was a learning curve, for both the consultancy and myself. As the role developed, it became clear that, ultimately, Pleon needed someone who would be happy in a purely sales role.
‘On reflection that's not for me, and I missed being a client-facing PR consultant,' he added.
Butters has also previously worked at Harvard PR. Immediately prior to Pleon, he briefly ran his own agency, Pervasive PR.
