Scottish Widows review puts Cicero team on alert

Scottish Widows has kicked off a review of its PA account as it responds to the Government's proposed pension reforms.

The move threatens two-year incumbent Cicero Consulting's hold on the account. A Scottish Widows spokeswoman said the review, overseen by director of public affairs Douglas Johnson, was driven by ‘good business practice'.

She added that it wants to appoint a firm by the end of the year on annual fees of around £100,000, for a contract commencing on 1 February 2007.

The company wants to raise awareness of the need for women in particular to save for their retirement. The brief covers both its core life insurance and pensions business, as well as its telephone-based bank, which specialises in niche products such as graduate mortgages.

Scottish Widows rehired Lansons Communications to its PR account and awarded 3 Monkeys Communications a branding brief this spring (PRWeek, 21 April). It will launch an autumn TV campaign featuring the new face of the brand, Hayley Hunt.
