Euro telco turns to M: Delta

M: Communications' investor relations arm M: Delta has secured its first major contract - for a firm billing itself as Europe's answer to Carphone Warehouse.

Avenir Telecom, which operates in mainland Europe and sells wholesale to the UK, has hired M: Delta after a four-way pitch. M: Delta is Avenir's first UK IR agency.

‘The brief is to raise Avenir's IR profile in London and Paris,' said M: Delta co-founder Tim Draper. ‘We're positioning the company as the European version of Carphone Warehouse, although the company does not have a high-street presence here.'

Avenir Telecom stores can be found in France, Italy and Germany, and it operates in nine European and North African countries.

Draper heads the account, reporting to Paris-based Avenir CEO Jean-Daniel Bournier, who founded the company in 1989.

M: Delta was formed in August when M: Communications founders Nick Miles and Hugh Morrison acquired four-strong agency Financial Village, set up by Draper and Jonathan Gollins, and renamed it (PRWeek, 11 August).

Avenir has been highly acquisitive in recent years, snapping up Bulgarian mobile phone distributor AKS and Spanish technology company Tiendas Futura this year alone. The company reported a 48 per cent increase in operating income in its annual results earlier this month.

Avenir Telecom UK was formerly known as CMC Limited. Its UK headquarters are in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire.
