AstraZeneca recruits for Luton comms roles

AstraZeneca UK is in recruitment overdrive after David Prager's resignation to join De Beers (see Related Stories).

Prager's final day at the firm's Luton offices was last Thursday. He held the title of AZ UK comms leader, in charge of a four-strong team, although numerous brand comms managers also partly reported to him.

He leaves an office that was already recruiting for two brand comms managers: firstly, to replace Cat Barnett, who is joining Ketchum (PRWeek, 15 Sept); and, secondly, to fill a role from which Prager was promoted last year - brand comms manager for respiratory product Symbicort.

AZ UK director of strategic operations and delivery Rosalind Cooper is leading the recruitment effort for Prager's role.

The company is not believed to have yet shortlisted candidates.

Prager spent three-and-a-half years at AZ and was promoted to the UK comms leader role last year.

AZ said it had split Prager's responsibilities among its brand comms staff on an interim basis. The company's group/global corporate/financial media team, based at the firm's global HQ in London's Stanhope Gate, is
unaffected. Key figures there include V-P of corporate affairs Lynn Tetrault, the US national who took up the post around two months ago after Mike Rance's retirement; and head of PR (corporate) Chris Major.

Cheshire-based Sally Sykes remains head of comms for AZ's UK business services.
