The £139m acquisition, reported on PRWeek.com this Monday, is the first time that a financial PR agency has been bought by a management consultancy rather than a media or marketing group.
Teather & Greenwood media analyst Ji Park said of the FD deal: ‘Financial PR is like management consultancy so it is natural that the two should come together. Could more follow? Definitely.'
But Numis executive director Lorna Tilbian said: ‘There are few PR companies of FD's size, and management consultancies don't diversify in small amounts - they want a full offering.'
Pembridge Partners partner Mark Adams said: ‘There are a number of sector-specific firms, such as travel and property PR agencies, that will start to look at their options. Instead of, say, joining WPP, teaming up with a travel company might be the best route for a travel PR firm.'
