Jenkins exits Barclays to drive BNP Paribas in UK

LONDON/PARIS: French bank BNP Paribas has brought in Barclays Global Investors' comms chief Robert Jenkins as its new UK head of corporate comms.

Jenkins, based in London, is charged with ‘ensuring the full scope' of BNP Paribas's business is ‘understood' in the UK, where its fixed-income business is headquartered. He will also take global comms responsibility for that part of the business.

He heads a team of 14 and replaces Jonathan Mullen, who has moved to Paris to become the firm's group head of media relations and internal comms.

‘The role will involve highlighting BNP Paribas's commitment to the UK,' said Jenkins. ‘Most of our clients are large companies - I've experienced communicating with them through my previous role at Barclays.'

At Barclays Global Investors, Jenkins was head of corporate comms, having worked for the company since 1997. Before Barclays, he worked with Cable & Wireless in Riga, at the company's Latvian joint venture, Lattelekom.

Jenkins reports to BNP Paribas's Paris-based global head of corporate comms and advertising Antoine Sire, and its London-based COO Herve Reynaud.

Barclays Global Investors has replaced Jenkins with two internal appointments. Esther Nass-Fetzmann is now senior corporate comms manager Europe; former Brunswick staffer Melissa McVeigh has become senior corporate communications manager UK.

BNP Paribas was formed in 2000 after a merger between Banque Nationale de Paris and Paribas.

It is the largest bank by total assets that is headquartered in the euro zone.
