Sector welcomes anti-ageism law

PR industry recruiters have welcomed the new age-discrimination laws coming into force next month.

Job-search agencies have been preparing for the rules, which forbid age discrimination in either the hiring or firing of staff. Most said they have already taken steps to ensure references to ‘years of experience' or age are removed from job ads.

Tom Hadley, director of external relations for recruitment body REC, which launched a Diversity Pledge last week, said it was time for employers to be more proactive on equal opportunities.
