Sony and Nokia viewed as advanced brands

Sony and Nokia are considered to be the most technologically advanced brands by consumers living in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, according to a new survey.

Cyprus-based market research company Synovate polled more than 5500 people from across the world on their attitudes towards technology, and found that Saudi consumers in particular are keen to keep up with new products and innovations.

Asked which brand name they think of first when considering 'leading edge' technology, 33% of respondents in Saudi Arabia said Sony, while 28% of respondents in the UAE said Nokia. Electronics firm LG emerged as the second highest placed brand, with 17% in Saudi Arabia and 12% in the UAE.

The survey found that just 0.3% of respondents from the UAE and 2% from Saudi Arabia would be able to live without their gadgets - the lowest figures in the study.

Overall, Saudi consumers were found to be the most eager early adopters, with 51% purchasing new technological products as soon as they are available.

Andreas Gregoriou, Synovate's managing director for the Gulf, said that the findings echoed the results of an earlier Synovate PAX survey in the region, which found that affluent consumers in the Middle East are confident and spending freely on high-end goods.
