Caillet joins from Ketchum France after five years, where he was account director looking after clients such as Kodak and IBM. At Firefly he leads a team of three, working across accounts such as TDK, soon to relaunch TV maker Telefunken, and secure data facilities network Telehouse Europe.
‘This position has been vacant since 2002, which is a reflection of market conditions,' said MD Mark Mellor. ‘Until recently the market was too flat for it to be worth reappointing anyone.'
Until four years ago the job was held by Veronique Pigot. As well as Paris and its HQ in London, Firefly has offices in Edinburgh, Munich and Stockholm. Mellor said the agency had no plans to open elsewhere.
Separately, Firefly's London office is facing up to Disney's sudden U-turn on plans to launch a mobile phone venture in the UK. The agency won a pitch to promote the launch of Disney Mobile in June (PRWeek, 23 June).
‘The launch has been postponed indefinitely and we have halted all work. It is a crowded market and retail conditions are tough. If there isn't enough room to support a new product then it is best not to launch it,' said Mellor.
Disney Mobile has been launched successfully in the US.
