DCLG lures Wilson to oversee media

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) has hired DfES acting deputy head of news Ben Wilson to oversee its media operation.

The new role has been created to beef up the DCLG's news function as part of a departmental shake-up, said acting director of comms Jane Groom.

Wilson previously reported to Department for Education and Skills head of news John Shield - who is to follow him to the DCLG as director of comms (PRWeek, 11 August).

Wilson joined the DfES as chief press officer 18 months ago and was previously a senior press officer at Number 10. At the DCLG he will lead a team of around 20, reporting to permanent secretary Peter Housden.

  • The revamped Office of the Deputy Prime Minister is on the hunt for a director-general of comms. The role was created after this year's exit of Derek Plews ‘by mutual agreement'.
