Vegetable is hardly Watergate material

Diary loves a good leak, so great excitement accompanied the arrival of an email entitled thus in our inbox. What dirty secret was about to be exposed? Which whistleblower was willing to put him or herself on the line to secure Diary a Pulitzer?

Alas, our excitement was misplaced. The missive was an announcement from Kate Kerss PR heralding the first PR campaign for, er, leeks.

The outfit is working on a campaign, backed by growers of the vegetable, and company Nunhems Seeds, to 'encourage more consumers to eat fresh British leeks' by targeting national and regional press.

The aim, the press release states, is to 'raise awareness of the nutritional and taste benefits of fresh seasonal leeks, while demonstrating just how easy they are to prepare and cook'.

Interesting - but not in the way we initially hoped.
