CDC enlists Merlin to replace Cubitt

The Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC), the government-backed private-equity investor that aims to generate wealth in poor countries, has appointed financial specialist Merlin.

The agency replaces Cubitt Consulting, which was hired last year, after a three-way pitch.

It will attempt to build CDC's UK profile as well as embarking on campaigns in Africa and South Asia.

Merlin CEO Paul Downes heads the account, reporting to CDC director of comms Miriam de Lacy and CEO Richard Laing.

Bell Pottinger continues to advise CDC on public affairs.
