Finsbury bags top slot as Xstrata deal boosts Aura

Finsbury continues to have a fruitful summer in respect of its work on M&A deals, climbing from last month's second place to top spot in this month's Deal Watch.

Finsbury's ten deals included working for Boots on its merger with Europe's second-biggest drugs distributor Alliance UniChem. It also continues to work with VNU as Valcon Acquisition raised its bid for the firm to £5.9bn.

Aura Financial rose to second place, owing to its work on Xstrata's £9.2bn hostile bid for Canadian miner Falconbridge. As Xstrata's representative, Aura beats its previous best Deal Watch performance (third in May).

By handling 30 smaller deals, Financial Dynamics comes in third: some of its biggest deals were for insurer Aviva, as it bought life insurer AmerUs Group for £1.9bn, and that for Spanish construction and services group FCC, which paid £1.4bn for WRG Holdings' waste-disposal business.

In fourth spot is Gavin Anderson, which boasts working for Alliance UniChem as the biggest of its four deals.

M: Communications' and Kekst & Co's work for Valcon Acquisition, clinching them spots at five and six. M edged ahead by virtue of its work on four more deals than Kekst.

Brunswick's 25 deals included work for plumbing and heating products firm Wolseley as it bought Danish DT Group for £1.35bn.

Citigate represented US firm Warburg Pincus in its buyout of Dutch cable TV firm Casema. The £1.96bn deal was one of 16 for Citigate this month.
