Villa FC suitor set to call in Holborn

Aston Villa Football Club's potential new owner US billionaire, Randy Lerner, was this week on the verge of signing a contract with London agency Holborn PR to advise on strategy.

Lerner, 44-year-old owner of American football outfit Cleveland Browns, is the frontrunner in the battle to take over the club from the increasingly unpopular chairman Doug Ellis.

Lerner is believed to want to distance himself from comparisons with Malcolm Glazer, the American tycoon who bought Manchester United amid a fans' backlash last year, and get Villa fans on side.

Holborn, whose chairman David Bick declined to comment, is also expected to stress Lerner's passion for the UK and the similarities between Birmingham and Cleveland's roots as bases for manufacturing industry.
