Action for Blind People has lured DrugScope's media and comms manager Petra Maxwell to a new PR manager role.
The charity is in the middle of an expansion programme and has created the new role in a bid to boost its comms function.
Maxwell said she would be implementing media relations and public affairs strategies based around Action's growth plans.
"Action wants to open 18 more sports clubs for blind and partially sighted children by March 2007 and is hoping to double the number of blind people who use its services in the next five years," said Maxwell.
She leads a team of three and reports to head of marketing Paul Werb. She will also draw up plans for activities surrounding Action's 150th anniversary next year.
Maxwell spent three years at DrugScope, and before that was a press officer for Parentline Plus.
