WS lands social housing account

Support services group Morrison has appointed Weber Shandwick to boost its credentials in providing repair and maintenance to social housing stock and local authority properties.

WS is charged with bolstering Morrison's ties with housing policy makers and local authorities, the potential client base of its facilities services division. The agency's brief extends to raising the firm's media profile.

Community and Local Government Secretary Ruth Kelly announced a review of social housing at the end of June to examine how the service can help create communities of different incomes and types of housing.

WS Public Affairs chairman Jon McLeod and director Luke Akehurst lead the account. Separately, the Bar Council has extended WS's PA and PR contract to the end of December.

The organisation will then shortlist agencies to pitch for a new contract thereafter.
