NUJ urges public Finnegan hearing

The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called for the forthcoming hearing into the suspension of Liverpool Council comms chief Matt Finnegan to be carried out in public.

The move came as the city council chose September for the hearing, 16 months after Finnegan was suspended on full pay.

The authority's assistant executive director for media is being investigated over alleged ‘procurement irregularities' relating to an incident four years ago. The hearing is due to take place behind closed doors.

The council declined to comment.
