Letter - Headhunters love recent graduates

I was fascinated to read your excellent feature on recruitment ('The headhunters are back,' 26 May).

Here at the MA in Public Relations course at Manchester Metropolitan University Business School, we keep a careful eye on recruitment trends so that we can continue to serve the interests of our students and PR recruiters.

It is clear from our experience that the hunt for talent extends to newcomers to PR. Just two weeks after the end of term, eight of our 20 masters students are already in permanent posts in the PR profession (the typical post being an account executive in a regional or London-based PR consultancy) - with three more in temporary PR work or placements.

From the outset, our MA in PR has set out to equip students with the knowledge needed to progress quickly to managerial roles, as well as the practical skills to hit the road running.

It is great to know that professional recruiters are now targeting 'PlusTwo' practitioners with this profile - and that there is now a name for the type of graduate we have aimed to produce for so many years.
