Bell plots return to 'London poverty'

One of the PR industry's most colourful characters, Quentin Bell, is to return permanently from exile in the south of France, Diary can reveal.

Ten well-known industry figures - including Graham Lancaster, Crispin Manners, Jackie Elliot, Adrian Wheeler and Doug Smith - gathered at a French eaterie in central London last Wednesday evening to mark the fact.

Did the QBO founder enjoy himself? 'Yes. Everyone was very complimentary - which is always nice when you're as insecure as me,' he replies, tongue surely in cheek.

He goes on to explain: 'I'm fed up with Monaco. I'm coming back to poverty.' And what has he got planned for his return to London? Bell unnervingly replies: 'Got a job?'

As Diary reaches for a Haymarket job application pack, our man hastily adds that he is quite taken 'with the idea of being a sounding-board - a shoulder to cry on for senior executives'.

He then describes the PR business as having become 'very boring these days - middle-managers seem to have taken over'.

We can surely expect more from Bell after he returns to these shores later this year.
