US transport chief takes H&K post

WASHINGTON: Hill & Knowlton has hired Norman Y. Mineta, secretary of transportation in the Bush administration, as vice-chairman.

The agency said his ‘extensive knowledge of public policy and business will provide valuable counsel to clients
on a broad range of domestic and international issues'.

He starts at H&K on 24 July and will report to chairman and CEO Paul Taaffe.

Mineta spent 20 years in the US House of Representatives, joining the Bush administration in January 2001. He oversaw the Coast Guard response to 9/11 during his tenure. He was also US secretary of commerce under president Bill Clinton.

‘We feel enormously privileged to have a leader with secretary Mineta's reputation and track record join us,' said Taaffe.
