Paster – who oversees the group's PR businesses, which include Hill & Knowlton, Cohn & Wolfe and Burson-Marsteller – will remain in his current position until the end of the year and continue thereafter with the company either part-time or as a consultant.
Paster said he was leaving because he wanted more free time. ‘I'll be 62 years old in December and I've been working fairly intensively my entire life,' he said.
No decision on a successor has been made.
Paster said WPP Group CEO Sir Martin Sorrell had known about his plans for some time.
Paster joined the company in August 2002 and is a former chairman and CEO of Hill & Knowlton. He was also a director of the White House Office of Legislative Affairs, for then president Bill Clinton.
