Story behind 2012 Games bid revealed

The first anniversary of London winning its bid to host the 2012 Olympics is to be marked by the publication of a book by the bid's PR supremo, Mike Lee OBE.

Lee, now running his agency, Vero, tells us: 'The origins of the book lie in a conversation with Paul Moore (ex-corporate affairs director at Virgin Atlantic) at the London 2012 victory party in Singapore.

He explains: 'As the celebrations continued into the early hours, Paul said: "You know, the bid story would make a great book - you should write it and Virgin should publish it."

'That exchange sowed a seed that grew with both of us and finally led to a publishing deal.'

Promising to detail the highs and lows of the campaign, The Race for the 2012 Olympics is out on 6 July.
