Vero lures triple-jumper Edwards

World-record holding triple-jumper Jonathan Edwards has joined Vero – the agency founded by London 2012 Olympic bid PR chief Mike Lee OBE – as a consultant.

Vero has also recruited English Institute of Sport (EIS) head of media affairs Claire Furlong to a new role of agency head of media relations.

Edwards will also chair a new ‘advisory board’ for Vero, which will convene individuals from sport and business to advise clients. Edwards’ time commitment to Vero will be dictated by projects and client demand.

Furlong, who has previously worked for TalkSport, will leave the EIS – which provides top-level medical and scientific support to athletes – this Friday, and joins Vero on 10 July.

She will be replaced internally by Hester Brierley.

Edwards worked alongside Lee on the 2012 bid. Since Edwards made his last competitive jump in 2003, he has presented BBC show Songs of Praise and has been a regular member of the BBC’s sports commentary arsenal.
