The 12-month £70,000 contract will see the agency raising the profile of the region’s County Sports Partnership, as well as promoting national initiatives Everyday Sport and Sporting Champions at a local level.
Ptarmigan, Brahm and Lucre are among the agencies that pitched for the brief.
Poulters MD Gary McCall is actually on the regional sports board of Sport England. But the body said he played no part in the hiring decision.
Poulters account director Sarah Giangregorio leads the account. She said: ‘Local people and the media do not seem to be aware of events such as the West Yorkshire Youth Games, even though they have been running for eight years, nor the investment that schools in the region have seen in terms of sports programmes.’
Sport England’s London and South-East regional divisions are also tendering for support. Agencies currently used for regional PR include Golley Slater, Band & Brown and Perfect Motion.
