The firm is effectively hunting for a direct replacement for head of external affairs Kate Hewer, who has gone on maternity leave. She is expected to be away for around 12 months.
A GSK spokesman confirmed that recruitment was ongoing for an interim role, but declined to provide details on how far the search had progressed.
Hewer’s position is believed to lead a team of around four. She reports to head of corporate affairs Neil McCrae.
Just last month, GSK named a new global communications chief – Duncan Learmouth – after Jennie Younger resigned from her role as senior vice-president of corporate communications and community partnerships to join Deutsch Bank (PRWeek, 26 May).
