Diary: Let's Meet at... Obsidian Bar and Restaurant, Manchester

Reviewed by Rick Guttridge, account director, Brazen PR.

Slightly off the beaten track, Obsidian Bar and Restaurant offers the opulence and great range of drinks and tasty food, whether you want coffee and nibbles, or a full-on meal for celebrating in style.

Obsidian bases its a la carte, bar and lunch menus on locally sourced products, with some international influences from Manchester's 'curry mile' and Chinatown.

The decor and 50ft bar would not be out of place in New York's Soho district, while the private booths and partitioned sections ensure privacy.

Choose from a range of elaborately named cocktails, such as the Basil Brush and Chocolate and Cherry Rum Old Fashioned, although my favourite is the Porn Star Martini containing Vanilla infused vodka, passion-fruit flesh, lemon and pineapple juice, served with a shot of Champagne on the side.

A 45-minute express menu means that busy execs can still enjoy fine food without clients thinking they're spending too long on lunch and not working hard enough for their fees! Starters include hand-dived scallops and goat's cheese fritters. For the main course I recommend the tandoori monkfish - and you must finish with the legendary Manchester Tart.
