Diary: Island of Bermuda ignores local talent

Diary was delighted to see that PRWeek has an avid reader base in the tax haven of Bermuda.

On Monday the island's only daily paper, The Royal Gazette, ran a story headlined: 'Appointment of UK firm upsets local PR firm.'

The UK firm in question was Rooster, which, as reported in our 19 May edition, has been taken on by the Bermuda Tourist Board.

But Bermuda-based Troncossi PR felt some of the work should have gone to a local agency. MD Elizabeth Tee told the Gazette that foreign PROs weren't up to scratch, as they lacked knowledge of the island.

Diary was thus keen to test Rooster on its Bermuda knowledge - but, surely coincidentally, couldn't get hold of the account handlers.

At the very least, Rooster should have no trouble recalling the name of the island's picturesque capital, Hamilton. By coincidence, it is the surname of account director Catriona.
