Freshwater buys Clear agency

Freshwater UK, the acquisitive regional PR network, has snapped up nine-strong London-based health and public sector comms specialist Clear.

The Cardiff-headquartered company has acquired Clear, founded in 1991 by John Underwood, in a cash-and-shares deal for an undisclosed amount.

Underwood and co-director Lesley Sergeant will remain with the business for at least two years, with the former joining the Freshwater board.

The acquisition, Freshwater’s sixth in less than two years, creates an enlarged group with 64 staff based across eight offices.

Clear was 146th in the latest PRWeek Top 150 Consultancies Report, with fee income of just under £1m (PRWeek, 21 April).

Clients include NHS organisations in South-West England, Connexions and West Midlands Deanery.

Underwood is a former News at Ten reporter and Labour Party communications director.
