Reporting to head of comms James Flynn, Sebright said he planned to improve the internal comms function at the service. He pointed to the introduction of a ‘cascade briefing system’, a revamp of the internal newsletter, and improved online comms.
Sebright said he wanted to ‘get staff on board’ via internal comms. He added: ‘The modernisation of the fire service is ongoing and there is still work to do in terms of taking on a more preventative campaigning role and promoting that role to employees.’
Sebright’s team gives PROs individual responsibility for specific portfolios, including community fire safety; equality and recruitment; emergency planning; youth engagement; and fire legislation.
Flynn joined the service as an interim head of comms in 2004, when he doubled the comms team’s size and added a two-strong PA arm.
