Cornwall uses August. One for 'region of culture' bid

Cornwall is to be the subject of a charm offensive as it bids to be designated as a European Region of Culture.

Promotional body Cornwall Arts Marketing (CAM) has hired August. One Communications to 'break Cornwall stereotypes, unveil its talent on the international scene and promote its plethora of galleries'.

CAM has been lobbying the EU to review its City of Culture programme and expand the criteria to include regions.

Aberdeenshire and a region in Finland have also been involved in lobbying for the creation of the initiative.

'We will appeal for business, the arts and the creative industries to support the bid,' said August. One senior consultant Amelia Grant.

As well as the much-fêted biosphere The Eden Project, the county has an arts scene that includes the Tate's gallery in St Ives.

Cornwall's surfing beaches, celebrity chef restaurants and picturesque countryside pushed it to the top of a 'property hotspot' survey by the Halifax building society last month.

August. One saw off Cow PR for the £100,000 account, and reports to CAM director Miranda Bird.
