Record dealer group Bard fights digital competition

The British Association of Record Dealers (Bard) has drafted in Edelman for PA and PR support, as its members bid to survive the rapid encroachment of computer downloads on their business.

The agency's brief is to boost Bard's profile among the media and politicians and of its events, such as the Classical Brits.

'The year 2006 will continue to present significant challenges to retail as the digital download market continues to evolve', said Edelman PA account manager Neil Spring. 'We will assist Bard in its commitment to ensure that consumers are offered the choice of products they desire, including the physical single, which is the public face of the singles market'.

Bard's membership represents more than 90 per cent of the music, video and games retail market. Members include the major supermarkets, WHSmith, HMV, Woolworths and a host of independent record shops.

Edelman secured the brief without a pitch.
