Q1 global revenues rocket across WPP agencies

First-quarter revenue at WPP's PR and PA businesses rose by 20 per cent on last year.

The global marcoms group said growth was notably strong in entertainment, financial services, healthcare and telecoms.

Q1 revenue from PR and PA rose from £117.1m last year to £140.6m this year. The division accounted for ten per cent of group revenue, compared with 11 per cent in 2005.

North America and the UK represented the slowest-growing regions across the group, with 17 per cent and nine per cent growth respectively. Latin America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East posted a combined growth quotient of 26 per cent .

WPP owns some of the world's largest PR companies, including Burson-Marsteller and Hill & Knowlton. The group singled out Cohn & Wolfe, Ogilvy PR and Finsbury worldwide, and Buchanan Communications in the UK, as being particularly strong performers in the first quarter.

Rival global group Omnicom last week posted first-quarter PR revenues of £145.6m - up 1.5 per cent on the previous year (PRWeek, 28 April).
