RSPB to highlight green initiatives

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) has expanded its press team as it strives to raise awareness of its climate change and conservation work.

Ex-journalist John Clare has taken a new role as media officer in the conservation and policy PR team. He joins after 12 years in
media, including four at the Cambridge Evening News.

Clare's remit includes publicising the RSPB's 200 nature reserves across the UK, particularly their role in preserving and restoring habitats lost to development and climate change.

With public concern about the environment high on the media agenda, the RSPB is keen to communicate that it is not solely concerned with birds, and that its remit spans agricultural policy and global warming.

It is also planning to target a broader range of media, placing greater emphasis on mainstream titles such as glossy women's magazines and national newspapers.
