Webaroo search engine picks Hotwire for Euro drive

Webaroo, billed as the world’s first search engine that can be used without an internet connection, has enlisted Hotwire PR to attract European consumers.

Users download free software from webaroo.com to their laptop or mobile device, and then copy and paste a URL into the programme's search bar. Pages that result from the search are stored and can be viewed offline. The service became available in the UK last week.

Hotwire will launch Webaroo across Spain, France, Italy and Germany in the next few months.

The service, also available in the US, is being promoted there by San Francisco-based agency Connecting Point Communications.

In addition to media relations work in the UK, Hotwire will run promotional campaigns around the World Cup in June. The
tournament will provide the basis of several subject-based content 'packs', which will contain web pages picked by Webaroo.

Because it is an offline application, there are no page updates, but when users reconnect their devices to the web, packs and sites update automatically.

Hotwire will emphasise the ease of Webaroo's application, said UK regional director Brendon Craigie. He added: 'The media have been oversold and over-hyped on consumer internet services, and there is a lot of scepticism out there.'

Hotwire has previously worked on Europe-wide briefs with consumer tech brand BlackBerry and sat nav provider ALK.
