Learndirect aims new NVQs at SME staff

The Government-backed distant learning programme Learndirect has brought in Harrison Cowley as the first agency to promote its NVQ courses.

A campaign led by HC executive director Christine Emmingham will target SMEs via local and trade media, complemented by a programme of exhibitions and other events. 'We will be looking at certain regions and industries where large numbers of employees would benefit from the NVQs recently introduced,' she said.

The new courses cover the customer service, business improvement, IT and health and social care sectors.

The agency beat off competition from Trimedia Communications and GCI to take the one-year brief, which is being handled by its Leeds office.

Learndirect is handled by Ufi – formerly known as University for Industry. It was set up in 1998 to boost businesses' productivity and competitiveness. HC's fees for the brief are undisclosed.
