Letter - B-rolls are stations' guilty little secret

RIP B-rolls? (24 March). Far from it. There is a huge appetite in TV newsrooms for well-produced material with a couldn't-shoot-it-yourself element.

The argument that PR-filmed material is out of fashion is flawed. There are more live pieces rather than pre-filmed packages because newsdesks don't have sufficient resources, and stand-uppers make cheap TV.

As for Sky and GMTV not using B-rolls, not only have our B-rolls featured on these stations but I have worked as a senior producer for both and can assure you they do. B-rolls are forward-planning desks' guilty secret - they would rather not admit they use them, but they do.
