Eidos tasks CDR with Championship Manager drive

Eidos is using Citigate Dewe Rogerson’s consumer wing to promote the latest version of its classic football game Championship Manager.

Initiatives include tie-ins with outspoken Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan, League Two side Leyton Orient and pop stars to create interest in the 2006 title.

The PC version of the game is out on 31 March, with console and mobile versions to follow.

Championship Manager 2006 has a 'benefactor' option in which manager performance is monitored by the boardroom, hence the plan to involve Jordan – who writes a lively column in The Observer. Jordan will devise a 'benefactor's charter' that CDR will use to promote the game, said agency director Mark Schmid.

The agency will also take a fan to a training session at Leyton Orient. He or she will organise running drills and will be introduced to the crowd at a subsequent match.

CDR is also urging celebrity fans of the game, such as TV presenters Ant and Dec and singer Robbie Williams, to take part in an online league.

Schmid promoted previous versions of the game while at Porter Novelli.
