COI snubs call to draw up PA roster

The Central Office of Information has rejected a call for the government marcoms operation to create a roster of public affairs agencies.

Leeds Business School senior business lecturer Karl Milner – also a consultant at Finsbury – has made the call in his latest paper, 'Why the public sector needs to hire lobbyists'.

He says having a vetted and approved list of PA suppliers would allow the COI to achieve value for money, let small firms compete on an equal footing, and 'apply high standards in the PA arena'.

But a COI spokeswoman said: 'We acknowledge that the roles of PR and PA can be blurred, for example with stakeholder engagement on a publicity campaign. The COI is satisfied that its roster of PR agencies can provide this service when required.'
