Jacobs takes up the role on 2 May and will report to GE Money head of European government relations Miles Webber. 'We are a prominent and growing financial services provider and need to ensure we are undertaking our government relations requirements appropriately,' said Webber.
Webber only joined last November from investment bank Goldman Sachs (PRWeek, 23 Sept 2005).
Jacobs joined Egg at the beginning of 2004 as its first head of public affairs. His role is to be subsumed under Prudential director of group public affairs Damian Leeson as a result of the insurer's acquisition of Egg.
It has also emerged that Egg director of comms Emma Byrne has been made redundant as a result of Prudential's acquisition.
Prudential was this week the subject of takeover speculation over a bid from rival insurance company Aviva, which owns Norwich Union.
Prior to Egg, Jacobs was a director in Consolidated Communications' PA practice, where he spent four years. He is also a former consultant at LLM Communications.
GE Consumer Finance rebranded as GE Money in January as part of an aggressive advertising drive to boost consumer uptake of its loans, mortgages and current accounts. It is best known for operating around half of the UK's storecards on behalf of retailers including Debenhams and House of Fraser.
