Energy suppliers promote helpline

The trade body for energy retailers has enlisted Good Relations to promote a helpline that aids those struggling to pay for domestic fuel.

Comprising the six major UK fuel suppliers, the Energy Retail Association was formed three years ago with the intention of tackling 'fuel poverty' and debt associated with energy bills.

Good Relations, part of the Bell Pottinger Group, will try to persuade at least 50,000 people to call the Home Heat Helpline.

'The campaign targets people who spend more than ten per cent of their income on fuel,' said Good Relations associate director Darren Young. 'Up to £1,200 of help is available, and 75 per cent of people don't know it.'

The free helpline is the first that is available to customers of any fuel supplier.
