East Sussex fire brigade calls in Priory

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has hired its first PR agency.

Brighton-based The Priory Partnership has been briefed to highlight the brigade's range of services. It will also lobby for better
community safety legislation, oversee safety campaigns and provide media support.

The brigade is hosting the annual UK Extrication Challenge in July – a competition for fire crews across the country to see who can free trapped people from vehicles the fastest.

'The brigade plays a huge role in freeing people from vehicles in traffic accidents so it is natural it should host the competition,' said Priory PR director Paula Seager.

'More than 5,000 visitors are expected,' she added.

The competition is hosted by a different fire service every year.
Priory will promote the event through local, regional, national and trade media relations. Local newspaper and radio advertising will
also be used.

More than 150 agencies expressed an interest in the tender, which Priory won after a five-way pitch.
