Opinion: Letter - EClips isn't cheaper for cuttings agencies

The UK Media Monitoring Association does not agree with the Newspaper Licensing Agency's Andrew Hughes that 'the pricing for eClips was distinctly optimised for the cuttings agencies' (Roundtable, 24 February).

EClips will bring some benefits, but not cost reductions. Indeed, the assertion that 'cuttings agencies are likely to save more than the cost of the electronic licence because they will not need staff to physically scan articles ' is wrong.

EClips will only cover a fraction of the NLA's own repertoire of 1,300 newspaper titles and, of course, no titles outside.Agencies will continue to run scanning operations to provide the range of newspaper and magazine cuttings that clients demand.
