Opinion: Letter - BMA: urgent need for bird flu comms dept

Mike Granatt and Charlie Whelan are right about the need for leadership on avian flu ('Public need central resource on bird flu'/'Govt needs a tsar to tackle bird flu crisis,' 24 February).

Worried ministers and highly cautious civil servants need to realise that no news is bad news. Without a central emergency planning comms facility, public confidence will be impossible to achieve.

There is still enough time to act - but only just.
