Kent hospital in centenary drive

Benenden Hospital, an independent charitable hospital in Kent, is using Nexus Communications in a bid to boost its profile.

The agency plans to deploy case studies of good patient care and hospital cleanliness to promote Benenden, which will celebrate its centenary in 2007.

People can be treated at Benenden via various routes – membership of the Benenden Healthcare Society, privately, or through NHS referral under the Government's controversial Patient Choice scheme.

The hospital has not previously retained agency support for consumer comms, although it once used Jonathan Street Communications – acquired by Nexus four and a half years ago (PRWeek, 14 Sept 2001) – for crisis comms support.

Nexus reports to PR co-ordinator Carrie Stephens, who is the hospital's sole in-house PRO.
