MD Smith quits Square Mile

Weber Shandwick Square Mile stalwart Kevin Smith has resigned from the agency.

Smith, who joined 14 years ago as a graduate trainee and had risen to MD of the agency's capital markets practice, left last Friday. He
is to join Citigate Dewe Rogerson's financial comms practice, as a senior director, in two weeks.

Fellow MD Ian Bailey, who took overall charge of WS Square Mile last year (PRWeek, 14 October 2005), said he had assumed control of the 20-strong capital markets team.  The agency will not be replacing Smith.

'Although I am disappointed because Kevin was a friend, 14 years is a long time,' Bailey added.

The seven directors in WS Square Mile's capital markets practice now report directly to Bailey as part of a centralisation of the company's reporting lines. The restructure has taken place
under the direction of Bailey and agency founder and chair Susan Ellis.

Besides Ellis and Bailey, a further three directors work in WS Square Mile's financial services operation, with one more in the agency's specialist design group.

Smith worked for WS Square Mile clients including Blacks Leisure Group and Cambridge Antibody Technology.

His departure comes a year after that of director John Coles (PRWeek, 20 Jan 2005). Coles has since joined Threadneedle Communications as a partner.
