PRide Awards: Thames on the rise

In the last of our series, we recognise the CIPR’s favourite campaigns from the Thames & Chiltern region

The high standard of entries for this year's CIPR PRide Awards in the Thames & Chiltern region underlines the healthy state of the PR and communications business in the counties to the north and west of London.

London-based organisations and consultancies do not  have the
monopoly on creative and cost-effective PR ideas that deliver measurable business benefits.

Congratulations to all of this year's finalists and winners.  Thanks also to all of the organisations and individuals who entered.

The serious side of any awards scheme is that it helps raise industry standards by showcasing examples of best practice.

That is why my committee and I want to encourage more businesses, charities, public bodies, consultancies and other organisations from our region – Bedforshire,  Buckinghamshire,  Berkshire,  Hertfordshire  and Oxfordshire – to share their PR achievements with a wider audience, and enter the next PRide Awards.

Entry deadline for the 2006/07 awards scheme will be in June/July
this year.

Zooming in on cable
French cable manufacturer Nexans supplies car and train makers and even space agencies. Marlow-based Six Degrees knew that press releases would more likely be adopted if they carried striking photography. The agency increased the company's stock of photographs from 30 in 2003 to more than 700 by January 2005. In one campaign period, pictures were sent with 48 out of 54 releases. Fifty per cent of news stories inspired by a Nexans release now use an official picture, and pick-up of releases has doubled.

BlackBerries are not the only fruit

Visto, a software developer for mobile network operators, has a big rival in BlackBerry. Companycare decided to use BlackBerry's dominance to its advantage, with the campaign 'BlackBerries are not the only fruit'. A series of site visits and briefings produced stories in national publications, while Visto appeared on CNBC live at the wireless industry exhibition in Cannes in February 2005. The FT-IT Review even used the strap as a headline.
